MC SHOCKER
When you think of MC’s and hard dance music in the UK, one name that immediately springs to mind is Shocker. He is without question the biggest and most successful MC the hard dance scene has known, and is dubbed by many fans, DJ’s and promoters as ‘the voice of hardstyle’ for the UK.
His career started in the mid 90’s during the boom of the UK rave scene, where early on he began his first residency at the legendary Martha’s Nightclub in Swansea, at the time voted as 4th best rave venue in the UK by leading dance music magazine, Mixmag.
A few years later, he went on to find worldwide success with Cally & Juice. He became such a big part of their act that a Cally & Juice booking just wasn’t the same without Shocker’s voice. Due to this he became very close with the guys who now classed themselves as a trio, and he went on to work with them at the majority of their club and festival shows at many of the most prestigious dance music venues all over the world.
Being known as a versatile performer, Shocker is possibly the only hard dance MC to have graced the stage for some of the biggest DJ’s from other genres outside of the hard dance scene. He’s hosted for Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, Ben Nicky, Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Timo Maas and the Plump DJs to name a few, and been highly praised by these artists, even when many of them have admitted they don’t usually like MC’s performing with them. This is such a huge compliment in itself.
Another pivotal point of Shocker’s career was becoming resident host for Bionic, the biggest and most loved hard dance event in the UK. Thanks to Bionic, throughout his 16 year residency with them, he worked with pretty much every hardstyle artist that was top of their game during this time, and his voice became synonymous with their events.
Bionic ended in 2016 but that hasn’t stopped him and since then he’s continued to host events for all the current premier hard dance brands the UK now has to offer, such as Kiddstock, Coloursfest, InfeXious, and Keeping The Rave Alive.
The last few years has seen the rise of hard dance brand HDUK which has captivated audiences of the harder styles in the UK with their massively popular online HDUK Community and with their arenas hosted at many big UK events and festivals. As well as being resident MC for the brand right from the beginning, Shocker has also played a pivotal role in the background, helping put together line-ups for some of their arenas at events such as Westfest and Ravers Reunited.
As well as being such a dominant force in the UK clubbing scene, Shocker has also played a big part hosting arenas at many big festivals globally, sometimes completely by himself. Throughout his time with Bionic he hosted all their festival arenas including Q-Base (DE), South West Four and Escape Into The Park. Aside from Bionic he’s also hosted arenas for the likes of Battle of the Basses (DE), Creamfields, Hard Island (HR) and the mighty 100,000 capacity Defqon 1 (NL).
In the studio Shocker regularly provides vocals for many of the hard dance scene’s biggest producers, and not just UK names, as he’s also worked with many big producers from abroad. Some notable studio collaborations have included Blutonium Boy (DE), Davide Sonar (IT), Cally/Cally & Juice, Francesco Zeta (IT), Steve Hill (AU), Alphaverb (NL), Jon The Baptist & DJ Chuck-E and Drunkhertz (IT), with many more collaborations already lined up for the near future.
With all this under his belt there is no slowing down for Shocker. His well-liked and professional manner continues to secure him bookings for many of the biggest hard dance brands worldwide, and with his unique skill of lifting a crowd atmosphere beyond where the music can take them, he’ll always be remembered by the DJ’s, promoters and especially the fans.
